The LG Optimus One provides Goggles app among its many other Google services offered with the Android platform. This recent addition to Google mobile services allows you to use the phones camera as a fast means to search the Web.
The handset has Android 2.2 including all of the Google
map integration, and a camera which works with Google Goggles to provide a fast and easy way to search the Web for just about anything you take a picture of. This highly innovative application uses photos from the handsets camera, and then searches Google based on what the photo is of, providing you with Web related search results through as a result. The app is easy to use and very simplistic as with most Google services; as well as it being incredibly powerful. It searches what your photo is based on, harnessing Google Search, Translate, Maps, Books, Shopping, and Images; and then matches it to provide search results for you to use. The Optimus One with its 3 megapixel camera allows you to capture a photo of a variety of objects and places to return your search matches. One of the latest is text for translation. Simply focus the camera in on some text in another language and the app will automatically detect the language and show you a translation on screen. For example; say you are in France, and go to a restaurant, the menu is naturally in French. Open Goggles and focus in on some text, and it is instantly translated for you.
The app is great for product searching too. You can focus the camera in on book covers (titles) and all manner of products and this intuitive application will provide a "Product Search" option for you. You are then directed to Google Shopping where you can find the cheapest and best places to buy the book or product from. Search for company information based on logos too. Snap a logo, such as that of Google, and have its company information appear as a Web search result instantly. Additionally you can also use it for artwork, and recognising landmarks.
