It is an open source solution and is counted among the best blogging software. It is very easy to install and use. It takes only 5 minutes to install it and get going with it. Thus it has become popular as an easy to use platform for publishing a website without any technical knowledge. Although WordPress is an ideal choice of web developers when it come to CMS development, but there are some alternatives available. One such alternative is Drupal. It has built in blogging capabilities and has some out of the box features.
Although in the blogging community Drupal is not a well known name in the same level as WordPress. However, there are a lot of bloggers who see a strong possibility of their blog growing beyond just a blog as the number of readers increase substantially. This is where the role of Drupal comes into play. Drupal was primarily built as a web software for online communities. It has built in forum and profile modules. Thus it has a potential of taking a blog to an entirely distinct level. Therefore, a Drupal based web portal has the ability to accept members as bloggers and forum members with their individual profiles and blogs.
Drupal also has a wonderful Blog module that supports multiple user blogging. This feature is not supported by WordPress. WordPress can only accept multiple authors blogging on a particular blog. Whereas Drupal provides users with their own blogs and individual RSS feed. Drupal also has a Ping module. This can alert on services like Pingomatic, Weblogs and Newsgator whenever a new content is posted -- much like WordPress.
However, Drupal does not have a built in track back feature. Thus a Drupal based website would require the factory of a third party module called Trackback module. The trakback feature allows blog to tip off someone else blog that has related to one of its posts. This way, the related blog can add a link on the post linking back to other blog.
Drupal was not built as a dedicated blogging software like WordPress. Therefore, it would require a lot of customization to achieve the same function and back end behavior of WordPress. This could be a discouraging factor for publishers who do not want the hassle of technical modifications. However, it only takes few minutes to activate the built in blog and Ping modules. Thus you can have a blog in just few minutes. You can also customize your blog with image galleries, video galleries, user groups etc.
