Since different merchants will have different pricing expectations, my advice to merchants would be to try choosing a medium priced solution instead of just going for all the cheap solutions. A medium priced solution will usually cost around $50 a month in subscription fees. Please also bear in mind that this does not include the other fees that you will have to pay for other third party providers like payment gateways, bank charges or drop ship subscription (if you are using a drop ship company to get your products).
Features Provided
If you are going to pay $50 a month in subscription fees, you should be able to have access to many features provided by the Shopping cart
integration software. These include free templates and different page layouts for you to choose from. And their solution should have different service providers integrated to make it easier for you to link up with them. For instance, if you are using a drop ship company, payment gateway or even if you wish to sell on eBay, all these would be easy to do from the shopping cart itself. You should also check on the total amount of disk space and bandwidth speed that is provided by the service provider (it should also be a reasonable amount).
Help Support Is Free
And whichever ecommerce software that you choose to use, they should all come with free help support. Why do I mention support? Because in the event that you run into any problems with the setting up of your own online store, you need to be able to contact the customer service or technical support without having to pay anything to the shopping cart provider when you reach out to them via email, live chat or phone calls. I know of some carts that do charge their merchants for contacting them for help. Just something to warn new merchants about.
